Using Open Data to plan Flood management in Assam

Reference

Abstract

40% of Assam faces floods every year. We are assisting the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in its flood management efforts with the help of Open Data. We are building the Intelligent Data Ecosystem for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDS-DRR). That talk would be about:

  1. Our open data sets range from unique Government datasets like tenders and flood damages datasets to satellite imagery obtained from BHUVAN and Google Earth Engine. We are open-sourcing all datasets that we obtained from government sources.
  2. Our experimentation with statistical models to use the open data in prioritising fund disbursal for flood management.
  3. Discussion on other use cases possible with the open datasets.
