Tech4All - Tech Accessibility as an essential factor for FOSS communities

The awareness and reachability of Free and Open Source technologies is very less in third world countries when compared to the rest of the world. In these developing countries there arises a need for fundamental needs like electricity, internet etc., which doesn't priortise the FOSS contributions. Women coming from these developing 3rd world nations/cities face social stigma and accessibility issues in addition to the reachability of the FOSS projects. With these challenges faced across similar regions we came together to form a Self Help Group to help fellow women to engage in learning FOSS and technology. The formation of Women In Tech collectives, India is just a small community to kick-off the Open Source awareness in the region and thereby create opportunities for women and feminists to participate and spread the importance of FOSS. We have found that women's creativity, skills and careers are left under recognised in this region but with just a laptop and internet connectivity we are able to do wonders. This talk would highlight about all the challenges and learnings in the journey of adopting FOSS techniques and tools (JS framework based platforms) that we use in the WITc community for educating our ladies.

I would like to discuss in detail about the Mozilla Hubs which is a virtual platform powered by Mozilla, the platform is designed in a way to make virtual collaboration and learning effortless. It is used by educators, teams, and organizations. To customise the VR spaces on Hubs an interesting tool called Spoke is helpful to create interactive VR worlds. In this talk I would like to share about how Mozilla Hubs work and how to get started with building your own custom VR worlds using Spoke tool. Spoke is an online 3D scene editor developed by the Mozilla Mixed Reality team. With Spoke, you can build environments using 3D models, architecture kit pieces, lights, images, videos, and more. Once your scene is ready, you can upload it to Hubs, or export it as a glTF 3D model.

I am interested to voice out the contributions of the regional community efforts and the visible gaps that are experienced in real time by the under/marginalised groups to adapt for technology excellence and even to run along with the race.
