In this interactive talk, I will be exploring the role of Patents in the Software Industry with the audience.

The talk structure is

1. Interactively understand why Patents exist in the first place. A lot of importance is placed on Patents by the Government, and the Industries so it is necessary to understand what can be patented and what cannot be patented
2. Expand the discussion to include Software Patents, and understand the pros and cons of Software Patents
3. Discuss the negative impact of Software Patents in other countries (in the West) e.g. frivolous lawsuits by patent trolls
4. Discuss the potential negative impact of Software Patents in India e.g. by highlighting the difference in number of patents granted to MNCs vs Startups, the legal costs of being sued for patent infringement in India
