OpenStreetMap Mapping Party
OpenStreetMap is an open-data map of the world which anybody can edit. It is often described as the Wikipedia of maps. The data is used by numerous liberated ("FOSS") applications, websites, and organizations across the world.
Contributing to OpenStreetMap is fun and addictive. You get to explore the world, find interesting places, and document it for yourself and others.
Structure
This workshop will be mentored by experienced OpenStreetMap contributors who regularly conduct mapping parties. It will consist of -
- a ~20-minute indoor session for basic information about OpenStreetMap and Organic Maps
- a ~20-minute outdoor session where we split up into groups and map the surrounding areas. Each group will be accompanied by an experienced contributor.
Content
Newcomers will learn about OpenStreetMap, how to use it for browsing and navigation using the liberated application Organic Maps, and how to perform simple edits.
Those already familiar with Organic Maps can learn to use other liberated software (such as OsmAnd, StreetComplete, Every Door, Vespucci, and Go Map) under the guidance of the mentors.
