Creating a contributing culture and onboarding more contributors to open source projects
Abstract:
Starting out with open source can be daunting for beginners, with challenges ranging from the project itself to difficulties getting PRs merged. Creating a contribution culture can also be challenging for open-source projects. While having good first issues can help beginners get started, it may not be enough to engage all potential contributors. Dhiraj suggests that offering various ways to contribute, such as creating tutorials or blogs, can help onboard new contributors and foster a contribution culture. Proper mentorship, contributor guidelines, and a smooth onboarding process are also crucial to address pain points and creating a supportive community.
Benefits to the ecosystem:
This presentation aims to help project admins onboard more contributors to open-source projects by exploring various effective practices. Creating a contribution culture can be challenging, but Dhiraj believes that this presentation will provide insights for organizations and maintainers to facilitate this process. Attendees will gain exposure to different ways of contributing to projects and supporting the community. By attending, project admins can learn how to effectively onboard contributors and create a more supportive and collaborative environment.
