Prof Kanan will give an overview of the open-source software that we promote through FOSSEE and Spoken Tutorial projects. Using Spoken Tutorials (https://spoken-tutorial.in), we have trained 70 lakh students in the past ten years. FOSSEE (https://fossee.in) promotes Scilab, Python, eSim, OpenFOAM, OpenModelica, OSDAG, R, Synfig Studio, Blender, etc., to name a few. Through FOSSEE, we train college students and faculty across India and make them contributors. This crowdsourcing effort has the potential to not only make open-source software comparable to the commercial equivalent but in some cases actually better.
