Service Meshes are fun, but observability in the mesh is quite challenging.

Distributed systems in general are really hard to observe, using a service mesh standardizes the application networking layer, but you still need to find a way to observe the mesh.

Enter OpenTelemetry, open telemetry is a project that aims to standardize observability in the mesh. OTel is a opensource project and vendor neutral.

In this talk I will show how one can use Opentelemetry to observe service meshes.
