From a Med student to Tech Leader: Transformation through Open Source

In this engaging talk, I will take you on a journey through my personal experience of how open-source contributions have significantly shaped my resume and career aspirations. I'll shed light on the Open Source path that will lead you to prestigious programs like Linux Foundation Mentorship, Google Summer of Code, Outreachy, Octernships, etc. all known for their highly selective nature but a childsplay for Open Source contributors!


I'll share my story of beating the odds, with acceptance rates as low as 0.8% and a graduation rate of less than 0.6%, yet managing to secure a spot in these programs, thanks to the contributions I made to the open-source community.


Moreover, I'll delve into the remarkable honor of getting to become a leader as a GitHub Campus Expert, where only 50 students out of more than 8 thousands of global applicants are chosen annually. I'll also discuss my role as the leader of the Google Developer Student Club at my university, highlighting how open-source involvement helped me achieve all these highly competitive position!


But it doesn't stop there. I'll emphasize the importance of these accomplishments on a resume and how they serve as a gateway to job opportunities, career growth, and building a strong professional network. I'll also touch on the various other benefits of engaging in open-source projects, such as skill development, personal growth, and a sense of contributing to the global tech community. All of these includes my PERSONAL Experience, I get a tons of DMs around these topics, but I believe this one talk will cover all the secrets!


Lastly, I'll share my journey as a leader in Students chapter of the CNCF community group Pune, showcasing how my open-source contributions not only benefited me but also allowed me to give back to the community and be recognized as a leader irrespective of a an already existing organizer for the chapter.
